The history of India is full of ups and downs. The demography consisted of different tribes & sects which was very aptly described by Kobiguru in his poem “Bharattirtha” – ‘Shak Hun Dal pathan mogal ek dehe holo leen ‘. ‘By following the Nath pantha which was considered superior to the traditional religious practices, this community irked the contemporary powerful and tyrant kings who unleased their wrath unto the Nath Yogis to such an extent that they almost faced extinction. To save their lives they fled their known territories and took shelter with the commons and got used to humble living immersed in the darkness of poverty and illiteracy which resulted in the waning of the glory of this great community.
Acharya Dr. Radha Gobinda Nath’s dream was to recover the lost glory of this community by re-introducing the Nath Pantha which was sunk in the abyss for long time. For this purpose, he founded the Assam Banga Yogi Sammilani which expanded by leaps and bounds and taken its shape as can be seen at present. However, this journey was never smooth. The tremendous efforts of some thoughtful enterprising members of this community at different eras have made it what it is today.
Apart from Acharya Radha Gobinda Nath founder of ABYS and Nathbandhu Aurobindo Bandhu Nath, the founder of ‘Yogisakha’, colossal efforts of Acharya Ambika Charan Nath (Dhaka), Nathbandhu Nath (Chittagong) and Pramathanath Nath (Nadia) stands out in the memorabilia. Their cohesive efforts led to the inclusion of Yogisakha as a mouthpiece of the organisation , victory in the Yashoda abduction case, victory in the Jatitatwa case, prevented the then Assam government’s attempt to exclude Yogis from Hinduism, restricted gradation of the Nath Yogis to lower caste, authorisation of widow and antorganik marriage. Bhabendralal Nath, Badaprasanna Nath, Brajendra Kumar Debnath and Manmatha Nath Sarkar contributed significantly in strengthening the organisation in their respective eras. Samarendranath Chowdhury, Bhabatosh Chowdhury, Manoranjan Chowdhury, Chittaranjan Bhowmik, Amalendu Bikash Chowdhury, Parimal Kanti Shiv and Niranjan Nath Bhowmik played the key role in planning and execution of the dream project of construction of the organisation own . Dr Nani Gopal Nath, Jadulal Bhowmik, Rabindra Kishore Nath , Manilal Bhowmik, Manik Ranjan Debnath, Dr. Jibankrishna Nath and others were their worthy successors. Presently, their unfinished activities are being carried forward by dedicated stalwarts like Professor Gopal Chandra Debnath, Dr. Sabhapati Nath, Gautam Debnath, Tushar Ranjan Debnath, Samiran Debnath and other members.
In today’s world, technology has made everyday life effortlessly accessible. The world which used to be allured with Maya is now enchanted with technology. Human beings could master the past, present and to some extent the future with the help of technology. So much so the present generation is using technology to develop their own thought process. In present times many of us avail the services of the Govt and Private sectors seamlessly with the help of websites, however, services from ABYS such as membership, advertisement or redressal of grievances could not be possible thus far. I hope this website will greatly facilitate the aforesaid and add value to students and other members of the community in pursuit of requisite information in their respective fields.
